Our Mission

Wish Upon The North Star (WUNS) is a charitable organization formed by Alaskan residents to serve Alaskan children.

We grant wishes to children with life-threatening illness. It is our profound desire to provide as much happiness and comfort as possible to these very special children and their families.

As healthy children we were good as wishing our hearts desire. We played it, lived it, believed it. We could be anything we wanted to be, and it made us feel wonderful. When you imagine yourself as a child child with a life-threatening illness, it’s scary and confusing. Joy goes away in the midst of physical and emotional pain. Many times the stress of the illness and the toll it takes prevent the child in need from hoping for a better day, for relief from suffering. We ask what would give them the most joy, to share the wish that is deepest in their hearts, and then, with the power of community support, we make it happen.

We have completed many of the most popular wishes to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Sea World and the Hawaiian beaches. Other wishes have included Alaskan hunting and fishing trips, an Alaskan Iditarod Sleddog ride and travel home to rural Alaska. We have granted birthday shopping sprees in a Limosine, a trip to Seattle Seahawks game, and participation in Arctic Thunder Air show. Some children’s wishes were for a computer, musical or electronical equipment or sometimes just lots of toys and ice cream.

We do everything possible to make the wish a family celebration and a lasting memory by including the parents, brothers and sisters living in the home.

We invite you to browse our website to learn more about our mission. With the continued support of our community, our service is to find those children in need and encourage them to live their dream.
